LEAGUE RULES                

SENIOR COMPETITIONS

1. These rules shall govern all competitions under the auspices of the North East of Scotland Lawn Tennis Association, here and after

referred to as 'The Association'.

2. The competitions shall be open only to Clubs affiliated to the Association.

3. A club wishing to compete shall give notice in writing of its intention to the Secretary of the Association on or before March 15th in

each year, or such other date decided by the Executive Committee. No club shall be eligible to compete unless it pays all subscriptions

and fees due to the Association.

4. All matches shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Lawn Tennis.

The qualification to play for a club shall be bona fide full playing membership of each club. In league matches, clubs with two teams must

nominate their four top players for their first team. These players shall play for the first team only. Second team players may play for the

first team as and when required. Clubs with three teams must also nominate four players for their second team. These players can play

for the first team as and when required, but not for the third team. (Similarly for clubs with four teams). No player can play in two

different teams in any one week. Names of the nominated players must be intimated to the Fixtures Secretary prior to the date of the

first series of league matches. Any club infringing this rule shall lose all matches in which the ineligible player has taken part


Players nominated for teams in Mens divisions 1 and 2 shall be ranked by their club according to singles playing ability. The rankings

must be submitted to the fixtures secretary along with the nominations. The playing order for singles matches shall be consistent with this

ranking.

In Knock-Out Competitions, no player may play for more than one team.

5. For the purposes of League Competitions, the Clubs entering may be divided into divisions. The Executive Committee shall determine

the Clubs for each division.

6. In League Competitions other than the First and Second Divisions of the Men’s League Competition, the teams will consist of two

couples, each of whom shall play one rubber against each couple of the opposing team. In the Men’s first and second Divisions, teams

will comprise four players listed in order of ability. Each player shall play a one set singles match against the opposing listed player.

 

8. In the event of a club not having enough players available in a given week to fulfil all its scheduled fixtures in the leagues, it must fulfil

fixtures in order of seniority and leave the fixtures of it's lowest team/s in the leagues unfulfilled.

9. All matches shall be arranged by the Fixtures Secretary, who shall send to each club a fixture list at least fourteen days before the first

match in each competition.

10. All matches shall start at 6.30pm on weekdays and at 2.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays, unless mutually agreed by the Clubs

concerned or unless owing to exceptional circumstances the Committee shall, in advance, have fixed or approved a different starting

time. Any Club whose team fails to appear on the courts ready for play within fifteen minutes of the time fixed, provided the match has

not been cancelled or postponed as hereinafter provided, shall forfeit the rubbers comprising the first round of the match, and within one

hour of the time fixed shall forfeit the match. Unless 24 hours’ notice has been given to the opposing secretary and the Fixtures

Secretary, TWO POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED, in addition to forfeiting the rubbers.


When a team appears within the set time but lack a full compliment of players, it shall forfeit the rubber or rubbers affected in the first

round or subsequent rounds. However if a full compliment of players is available at the conclusion of a round, the subsequent round or

rounds shall proceed in accordance with the initial draw.

11. In all competitions, the home team shall provide a minimum of three new tennis balls per each home team couple. Balls must be of

the LTA Approved Standard.

12. In League Competitions, two points should be awarded for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of two or more clubs having

the same total, final placings will be decided by the difference in rubbers won and lost, and if necessary by the difference in sets.

 

13. In Men’s division one and two, matches shall be decided on the basis of sets won and lost. A match which lasts five sets each would

be classified as a draw despite the possibility that a team might have won more individual rubbers. In Men’s division three and all Ladies

divisions, matches are decided by the number of rubbers won, not sets.

14. In the case of matches postponed by reason of weather, the clubs concerned shall attempt to agree on another date and the home

club shall notify the Fixtures Secretary of the new date. Should clubs fail to reach agreement within three days of the postponed match,

the home club shall advise the Fixtures Secretary who shall then fix a new date.

15. In the event of a match being interrupted through unforeseen circumstances, notification of this and the state of the match must be

sent to the Fixtures Secretary. A new date shall then be fixed as provide in Rule 16 hereof. The match shall be resumed at the point

where the interruption occurred, but all unfinished sets shall be considered void and shall be replayed. In the case of a replayed match

being again interrupted, the result of match shall be determined by completed rubbers. In the event of one round not being completed,

the match will be treated as abandoned and a new date will be fixed as herein before provided. In the event of a match being unfinished,

the composition of the team may be altered only if any team member of the original team is bona fide, unavailable, and provided no re-

arrangement of the other couples is made i.e. the substitute will replace the player who is unavailable.

16. In the event of any club failing to play a match on the date ordered by the Fixtures Secretary, or mutually arranged, without being

able to furnish a reasonable and just explanation, the offending club shall be adjudged to have forfeited the match and in a league match

the points therein. Unfavourable weather and unplayable conditions of the courts shall be accepted as satisfactory reason for non-

fulfilment and postponement and in case of doubt the home club shall at the earliest possible moment communicate with its opponents as

to the conditions and likelihood of play.


17. Any club intending to scratch shall give information in writing of it’s intention to do so to the opposing club and to the Fixtures

Secretary before the date for playing or shall be reported to the Executive Committee which shall have the power to take action as it

may deem necessary and expedient.

18. Both competing clubs shall send notice of the results of the match and of the players in both teams to the Fixtures Secretary on the

score cards provided within 24 hours of the match. Clubs failing to comply with this rule shall be liable to forfeit the match and where

applicable any points earned in accordance with Rule 13 hereof.

19. All matches in the League Competitions shall be played not later than September 30th of the current year. In the event of any

matches remaining unplayed on that date, two points shall be deducted from both teams in the fixture unless the Executive Committee

decides on cause being shown, to waive or vary this provision on application of one or both teams, and to award points if appropriate.

 

20. All questions of eligibility, qualifications of competitors, or interpretation of these Rules, shall be referred to the Executive Committee

of the Association whose decision is final.

21. The Executive Committee shall have the power to alter or add to these Rules as it may from time to time deem expedient.

SPECIAL NOTICES

1. Inform teams in your league of any change of captain.


2. Check fixtures in handbook and website with those given out by the fixture secretary.


3. All games should commence at 6.30pm

WINTER LEAGUE RULES

1. A team should consist of 4 players, 2 men and 2 women.


2. Matches will consist of 4 events, men’s doubles, ladies’ doubles and two mixed doubles.


3. Each event will be the best of 3 sets.


4. No ad scoring will apply in each game. This means that at deuce in any game only one more point will be played. The partnership

receiving will get to choose who receives, except in mixed doubles when the man will receive from the man and vice versa.


5. Tie Break sets will operate for the first two sets.


6. The third set will consist of a tie break only


7. Trophies will be awarded to the winner of each division.


SCOTTISH CUP RULES

STAGE ONE


1. After each round in stage I winning team must inform the North East LTA District Secretary immediately

.
2. The home team must offer the away team 3 dates, one of which must be a weekend.


STAGE TWO


1. Stage II will be drawn by Tennis Scotland.


2. Teams must be able to provide proof of players playing in local leagues and bona fide membership of relevant club or risk potential

expulsion.


3. All instructions from Tennis Scotland must be adhered to or risk potential disqualification.

 

Junior League Rules

1. There shall be an U16 boys, U16 girls, U13 boys and U13 girls leagues run during the season of 2011

. The U16 age group will be played after summer due to clubs having U13 and Aegon fixtures in the

month of May and June.

2. The respective competition shall be restricted to players aged under 16 or under 13 as at 1st January

2011. Therefore a player who turns 16 during the year is eligible to play in the U16 junior league for the

duration of the season.


3. Each boys fixture shall consist of 4 players, with the girls team consisting of just 2 players. If a team is

really struggling to get 4 boys then they may play a girl to fulfil a team. The results will still stand, howeve

r you must contact the opposition beforehand to let them know if you are playing a girl in a boys match so

they are aware.


4. The 4 players shall be seeded 1 to 4 in order of singles playing strength, or 1 to 2 for the girls matches


5. For the boys matches, the match shall consist of 4 singles (playing the opposite number of seeded

player) and 2 doubles (No 1 and 2 seeds shall play the No 1 and 2 seeds of the opposite team, and the

same occurs for 3 & 4).


6. For the girls matches, the match shall consist of 2 singles (playing the opposite number of seeded

player) and 1 doubles.


7. Each rubber shall be 2 short sets (first to get to 4 games, or if it becomes 3-3 it shall be first to 5, or if

it becomes 4-4 a normal tie-break to 7 shall occur). If the match is tied at 1 set all, a match tie-break to

10 pts (must win by 2 clear) shall be played to determine the winner. The doubles may be reduced to 1

set if the singles has over-run and only if both clubs agree.


8. Each singles victory is worth 1pt to the team, with each doubles match worth 2 pts. Therefore, there

rt at 4:30pm, unless by arrangement between the respective clubs.


10. The home team shall provide tennis balls for each match (although I will try and get the district to

reimburse the money for balls so keep a running total of costs).


11. 3 points shall be allocated to the winning team or any team receiving a walkover, 1 point shall be

allocated for a draw and 0 pts for a loss.

12. All results shall be emailed to Andrew Fraser (andyf.ict@hotmail.co.uk) within 3 days of the match

being played (both teams must email). Ensure you write down the scores (feel free to use the template

provided) on the day and email to myself as soon as possible. Only enter BTM’s number if the players

wish to before the matches start.


13. The home team must contact the away team 48 hours before the scheduled match, to ensure both

clubs are aware of the fixture. A contact list shall be distributed before the first fixture.

14. The home team are to provide refreshments for after the match.
